What on earth is the difference between ordinary bags and designer handbags? Nowadays, people seem to chase goods of the first rate blindly, without necessary comparisons. This is a phenomenon that all of us should think of.
Basically, the function of a handbag is just to hold things. So, if it is firm enough with a suitable size according to individual demands, we can recognize this handbag as a qualified one. However, the case is not so simple. In this commercial age, people are apt to judge others from their appearance and dress. Therefore, handbags are also a target of judgments because they don’t only function as a container, but an ornament as well as part of the dress. In these people’s value, which is predominant in contemporary society, plain ornaments and dress reveal one’s inferior state of economy. In view of this, many people start to purchase famous-brand products in fear of being looked down upon which would bring further negative influence like losing opportunities of career or future development. So, we should show understanding to this psychology because it is not only about vanity, but an issue involving the whole society, just like the film Isabella(produced in Hong Kong, 2005), in which the protagonist, Zhengcheng Ma, said ‘In Macao, if you don’t wear a golden watch, people will not look down on you, they don’t even see you.’ It’s really a bitter and severe reality that people chase designer handbags due to social value.
Besides, famous brands do have the superiority over ordinary products in the aspect of meeting customers’ aesthetic standards. As for handbags, designer ones are usually handmade, which are superior to those made from flow lines in the quality and beauty, thus designer handbags will gain more attention from customers, especially females. What’s more, famous brands are usually bespoke ones, thus customers could be served better as they can demand more for their individual requests. However, there is still a question that has been haunting me all the way that what if an imitation has the approximately equal quality and beauty, and unless you are the expert, you won’t distinguish between the imitative one and famous brand?
All in all, purchasing designer handbags do involve vanity. However we should take the social value of judgments and the beauty of designer handbags in mind.
